Schlenkerla Marzen
So this is from those guys down Germany way who did the *amazing* oak-smoked doppelbock that I raved about. This marzen, a 5.1% smoke beer, though, is definitely not up there with its stablemate. Its smoky, mildly skunky and toffee sweet nose leads you into a brew which is strongly carbonated but with a surprisingly low head and dark, reddish brown colour. Taste-wise it's like a porter but somehow thinner and more refreshing, being oddly un-smoky with a hint of coffee. I felt that there was far too much carbonation for this flavour profile which is pretty mild by any standard. Not Recommended, but big thanks to Darren for bringing it along.
